Ingredients
8 oz kataifi pastry
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1 cup pistachios, chopped
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 cup honey
Pistachios, for garnish
Instructions
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine sugar, water, and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in vanilla extract and cinnamon, then set aside to cool.
Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts and pistachios. Set aside.
Assemble the Kataifi: Take the kataifi pastry and separate it into small strands. Brush a baking dish with melted butter and layer half of the kataifi at the bottom. Spread the nut mixture evenly on top, then cover with the remaining kataifi. Drizzle the top with melted butter.
Bake the Pastry: Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Add the Syrup: Once the pastry is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot kataifi. Allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Serve: Garnish with additional chopped pistachios before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a different flavor, you can substitute the nuts with almonds or hazelnuts. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
